Wall-based artwork @ Oculus (Facebook, now Meta) HQ, Zurich
In 2020, as part of Facebook's OpenArts project, which oversees art installations in the company's workspaces, a wall-based artwork was created for the offices of Oculus, the virtual reality company within the same group, at their European headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
For a wall measuring over 3 × 6 metres, the design was produced fully digitally at 37205 × 16535 pixels and printed on Vello fleece wallpaper by Jakob Schlaepfer.
The theme revolves around tech-related imagery, mixing elements rendered from 3D modeling and simulation, digital and generative art tropes, and the backend aesthetics of digital content creation (DCC) software — reminiscent of early computer era nostalgia, but transposed to the present. On another level, the piece focuses on the corporate color — an example of corporate design grounded in collective input, even involving actual statistical surveys — which turns it into an inquiry into how far perceptual space is shared.
An NFT of a downscaled version of the original design lives on SuperRare.
